Ownership Dispute Policy

Overview

A pet ownership dispute arises when more than one person claims to be the registered owner of the same microchipped pet. mChip is a registry — we record the information our users provide, and we do not adjudicate legal ownership of an animal.

How to Raise a Dispute

If you believe a microchip registered with mChip is associated with the wrong owner, contact us at [email protected] with the subject line "Ownership Dispute" and include the microchip identification number, your relationship to the pet, and any supporting documentation (adoption records, veterinary records, proof of purchase, or similar).

We will acknowledge your report and may contact the other party. While a dispute is open, we may decline to process a transfer of the registration until the parties resolve the matter between themselves or provide a court order or other legally binding determination of ownership.

Our Role

mChip does not determine who legally owns a pet and is not a substitute for legal advice, animal control, or the courts. Nothing in this policy obligates us to resolve a dispute in favor of any party, and our Terms of Service — including the disclaimers and limitations of liability set out there — continue to apply.
